Sima Vaziry collection for British Museum Assyrian exhibition - news

King Ashurbanipal of Assyria (r. 669–c. 631 BC) was the most powerful man on earth. He described himself in inscriptions as ‘king of the world’, and his reign from the city of Nineveh (now in northern Iraq) marked the high point of the Assyrian empire, which stretched from the shores of the eastern Mediterranean to the mountains of western Iran.

Sima’s collection has been inspired by this subject and the golden flowers decorating gowns are considered the main decorative unit for costumes. At the same time they are used in architecture, and in Assyrian pottery.

The pieces will be on display and sale at the Grenville shop in the British Museum as well as their online shop from 8 November 2018 – 24 February 2019.
